The short version: we collect only what we need to answer your questions and keep this site running, we do not sell your information, and you can ask us about it any time at privacy@hjwucpa.com. The details are below.

Who are we?

HJ Wu & Company Inc. (CPA), 512 - 938 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1N9. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the firm. We follow British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s federal privacy law where it applies.

What information do we collect?

• The contact form: your name, email address, phone number, subject and message.
• The subscribe form: your email address.
• Emails and calls: whatever you choose to tell us when you write or phone.
• Automatic website information: like most websites, our web host and analytics tools record things such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how long you stay and the page that sent you here.

How do we use it?

• To reply to your message and book consultations
• To email you a confirmation copy of what you sent, and news if you subscribed
• To see which pages are helpful and make the site faster and easier to use
• To keep the site secure and block spam
• To meet legal and professional requirements

Why do we email you a copy?

When you use the contact or subscribe form, we send a copy or confirmation to the address you typed. If someone entered your email by mistake, you can ignore it or tell us at privacy@hjwucpa.com.

Who do we share it with?

We do not sell your personal information. We use a few service providers to run the site: our web host and email provider, Google (reCAPTCHA spam protection and the map on the contact page) and Microsoft (website analytics). They handle information for us and have their own privacy policies, and some may process it outside Canada. We may also share information when the law requires it.

What about cookies?

Cookies are small files your browser stores. Our analytics tools and Google reCAPTCHA may use them to count visits and tell people from bots. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well.

What about client information?

If you become a client, the information you give us for tax or accounting work is covered by our professional confidentiality duties. This policy is about the website only.

How long do we keep it?

As long as we need it for the reason you gave it to us, or as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your contact or subscribe details any time.

How do we protect it?

The site uses HTTPS, and we limit who can see messages and use reasonable safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not put your SIN, banking details or other sensitive information in the website forms. Call us and we will suggest a safer way to send it.

What are your choices?

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent, or unsubscribe from news at any time by replying to a news email or writing to privacy@hjwucpa.com. If we cannot sort something out, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC.

Is this site for children?

No. It is written for adults and businesses, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Will this policy change?
